Research Studies on the Violence within Video Games

Today video game industry continues to grow with different advancements in technology, which have caused these games to become extremely realistic in nature. And thus this has made video game popular with children these days, however as well it has caused many parents to question to policies on these video games.

Today it is not a secret that children play video games almost every day. These games give children the chance to work on such skills as problem solving and how to work through strategic problems. But today like with any popular item on the market there has been a lot of controversy over these popular video games. The controversy that these games have caused is a result of these games containing a lot of violence, gore and antisocial behavior.

The concern of many adults, parents and educators is based on the belief that these video games are not for kids due to the violence they contain. The major concern regarding violent video games is based on the postulate that these video games help contribute to the aggressive behavior among many kids who play them on a regular basis.

In accordance with recent research studies the violence levels in some video games increase the levels of aggression among kids who play these games. Research studies have shown that children who play these video games are most likely to imitate various actions of their characters within the video games in real life. Especially this is true about the games which require active participation from kids who are playing them. Besides, they feel that video games are repetitive which will boost the child's learning of aggressive and negative behavior. The main concern with violent video games is that these games reward children for being violent within the video game.

At the same time, studies have shown that increasing exposure to violent video games will increase diastolic and systolic blood pressure as well as will cause rapid heart rate.
