Viewing Things From An External Perspective
By Lyle H. Lewandowski
No problem can be corrected from the corresponding level of consciousness that created it. - Albert Einstein
Other people seem to be able to figure out some of their own issues that have been bothering them for long stretches of time, and they seem to know the answer without really thinking about it. There is no doubt that the people we confide in will always have an easy answer for us. It can help substantially to have an objective point of view, or a birds-eye view that takes in a broader range of information that can help see things often missed when one is in the problem. Rather than finding someone else, what other ideas can we look into to discover our problems from a wider range?
There is a motion picture called, What The Bleep Do We Know?! The point the movie is attempting to get through is that we can look at a situation as being two-dimensional, or open our eyes further to see a third-dimension. It explores with the viewer the question of whether a person in a two dimensional world could possibly see things in a three dimensional world. Although it may sound complicated, the point trying to be made is that we are unable to attain this third-dimension because we are too wrapped up in our own. The simplistic principle of this concept is that, because we are in the situation, we are limited to a two-dimensional view, but others who can see our problem as a third party, have the ability to see all dimensions. Inadvertently, it suggests the possibility that there are things we cannot see because your brains are not perceptually set up to see them.
Rational Inquiry (tm), a scientific way of looking at the how we see things, was created by Keith Raniere as a balance to considering our options, and being more realistic. We can try to use this science to not only change the short-term range of perception, but also the long-term so that our future can utilize good decisions from a wide perception.
So, what precisely is a shift in perception? One of the great things with this concept is that it becomes a regular thing that we can implemented in all decisions that need to be made. It's a bit hard to imagine this, because we are so deeply rooted in our current perceptions, however, what if it is in fact possible to change our perceptions, if we are able to evaluate information differently, or more effectively? If you've ever seen a suspense movie, you have likely experienced this. In many of these films, there are different pieces that have to come together to get to a conclusive ending. The views that are displayed in these movies are multiple and you can tell by the end of it that they were each used to get to a conclusive ending. Finally, this makes sense!
You can see how this concept from Keith Raniere about Perceptual shifts makes perfect sense. NXIVM was made for people to learn how to see these different sides of thought. I imagine perceptual shifts could be incredibly beneficial because if it's possible we are missing something, then looking at it another way could be the answer to many life problems. If everyone tried to see this kind of perceptual shift, then the world might be much less problematic.
