By Skye Benns
The Pentax Option WG-1 is one of the most durable digital cameras available today. It is perfect for those who spend a lot of time in high-impact activities or just those who need a tougher-than-average camera. The WG-1 is dustproof, can withstand freezing temperatures down to 14F/10 C, can take a fall of 5 feet, can stand up under 220 pounds of pressure, and is waterproof down to 33 feet. Don't let its svelte lines fool you, this sweet looking camera is tough as nails, and its 14-megapixel resolution, 720p HD video (at 30 fps), and 5x optical zoom lens make it a real workhorse of a camera.
The Pentax Optio WG-1 has a lot of commendable features. It has a sizeable 2.7 inch glare-resistant LCD screen (with 16:9 wide-screen aspect ratio). It sports 5 LED macro lights, surrounding the lens bezel, and has a detachable Macro stand. It's long-life rechargeable Lithium Ion battery is good for plenty of pictures and video on the go.
The Optio WG-1 also has many features to enhance usability. Most notable amongst many are its Pixel Tracking, Blink Detection, Digital Shake reduction, Smile Capture, and Face Detection functions. Its autofocus assist lamp helps you get the perfect shot every time. The WG-1's Enhanced Digital Microscope mode is fun for playing around with up-close images. This camera also has the ability to be used with an infrared remote control.
There is no problem with moving and reviewing images and video with the Pentax Optio WG-1. You can watch your videos or review still images on any HDTV by connecting to the WG-1's HDMI port. You can also transfer pictures and images via memory card, using the camera's SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot. The Optio WG-1 also features Eye-fi capabilities.
Those wanting a bit more can upgrade to the WG-1 GPS. This model offers GPS functionality for geo-tagging.
The Pentax Optio WG-1 retails for around $349.95 and is available in straight black or purple/black. The GPS capable version runs at $399.95 and comes in straight black or green/black. Either option is ideal for the active photographer or anyone who simply wants a solid, high-performance camera that can play as hard as it works.
