By Rick Baugh

Television has been around for a number of years. There are very few people who do not own at least one set, some may have several. Society and the kids seem to demand that we have to have the latest models and the most up to date services, in other words keep up with technology. When it comes to TV and services that usually means satellite TV so we can access hundreds of programs.

Watching television was initially used to gather the family together to watch programs for their entertainment. The choice and type of programs was limited and there were only four channels on offer. In addition there was no such thing as color TV; everything was in black and white.

Along with the introduction of color programs and televisions, came an increase in the number of channels available. Service providers moved into the area of using cable services, which they continue to develop today. The main problems with cables initially were that extreme weather conditions could affect the quality of the transmission. Users started to get fed up with poor audio and images.

Satellite dishes have also been around for a number of years, but were originally used for radio networking. It soon became apparent that they could be used to pick up television broadcasts as well as radio transmissions. It was not long before satellite dishes became a commercial object.

Significant financial investment was put into developing and improving satellite dishes. The dishes were redesigned to become much more compact, Customers were able to access a lot more channels and programs from around the world. There was also a much more diverse range of program options for viewers to choose from.

The audio and visual experience can be so good that you might feel you can reach out and touch the characters because they are in the room. Providing you have a good set, you have the option to add surround sound. If you have a set that is 3D or one of the many large screen models, it can be like sitting in the cinema.

To date, there are very few homes that have just the basic television services. Satellite TV has made it possible to access the equipment and software needed to bring the world into your living room. The services are becoming much more affordable with many just requiring a one off payment rather than a monthly fee, thanks to the fierce competition.
