A Wi-Fi Tablet Examined: The Dell Streak 7
By Sue Ariosa
When the iPad made its debut, people said to themselves, "Whatever, I have a laptop for that." But then, the real intent of the iPad began to become more obvious. The iPad became sought out, sales and net profits surged and abruptly all of the leading computer and cellular companies wanted to join the action. Suddenly, Tablets were present in all the sales outlets. And Dell's stockholders will be upset if they didn't attempt and corner a piece of the market. That is why they have come out with the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet. We're going to evaluate this unit in this article and offer you the answers you need for you to determine if it's a good purchase or not.
It's a good device for movies with a similar system to watch movies for ipad. The first "con" of this Dell tablet is the company that is making it. Quality and reliability are not hallmarks of this company's past offerings. Dell's customer service record is also on sort of shaky ground. After the warranty on your product expires, you will be charged for customer service calls to the company - at least that is what numerous customers claim. Buying a product from Dell may have future implications - and not just cost - which may well outweigh the immediate savings from it being a relatively cheap purchase.
Multitasking is facilitate by the tablet's OS, a version of the Android OS called "Froyo." The system's notification service keeps you updated even if all apps aren't open and running, and at the same time, you will be able to maintain your GPS information and listen to MP3s. There are no worries about being unreachable with this tablet; communications via Gmail and other email setups are possible.
A one-up feature of this Dell tablet compared with the initial iPad is video chat. Video chat is incorporated with the Dell Streak 7 tablet through Qik software and a camera panel that faces front. The trouble is , however, that you won't be able to communicate with people who don't use the same Dell device, or something compatible. What this means is that the video chat feature is not universal in its application. The built-in On Demand service supplied by Blockbuster is a decided plus for this tablet. You may have known that Blockbuster has been going through its own share of problems of late so we aren't quite sure if this is really a selling point.
As yet, there aren't lots of reviews about this particular product although a few people are questioning what the purpose of this product might really be. The device's functionality is terribly limited through its inability to interact with other devices that aren't compatible with this particular Dell tablet. Nevertheless, if you are desperate for a tablet computer and you have a small budget, the Dell Streak 7 might be a good way to get used to the technology and figure out if tablets actually are for you. Bearing in mind the earlier caveats, make sure you think about your purchase with care before committing your money.
