Trying to find an LED TV to buy? Wondering what an LED is? LED TVs are simply a type of LCD TV that has different technology. If we understand what a LCD TV is then we can more clearly see the value of LED TVs. LCD TVs have a display panel and a separate light source behind it. The display panel is crystal liquid and the light source is usually made of fluorescent lamps.

This sort of lighting is found to be 'bigger', give poorer-quality pictures, and be less energy-efficient. LED LCD Tvs have "light-emitting diodes" that are the light source for the display panel. The advantages slightly vary depending on which type of LED TV you get but overall they are a cut above your regular LCD TVs.

There are basically two different types of LED TVs- "Edge Lit" and "Full Array Back Lit". "Edge Lit" have LED's behind the display panel on the outer edges only which allows for a lighter, more energy efficient, and significantly thinner TV. 2) "Full Array Back Lit" have LED's throughout the whole display panel. This means that there is greater brightness and weight than "Edge Lit" LED's. 3) RGB Dynamic- allows for optional dimming capabilities.

If your serious about purchasing there are some cons to consider. If your interested in "Edge-Lit"TV's than you will have to put up with lack of color uniformity- the outer edges may look brighter or lighter at times. Also, just like all LCD TVs there's the issue of the picture looking different depending on the angle your at. LED's are more expensive and there is the dimming feature that makes this type of TV less energy efficient than regular LCDs

Don't feel intimidated by all the LED TV options out there! Simply decide what are the most important qualities your looking for and make an informed decision about the one you choose. If your most important priority is getting a LED TV that is light and thin, then don't worry about the color uniformity issues, you have what you need! Remember, when it comes to looking for a good TV don't get bogged down with the "paralysis of analysis". Keep in mind what matters most to you and go with that(also keep the receipt and box)!
